Your wedding day should be all about you and your lover! Way too often we see couples get swept away in planning and then realize that their wedding wasn’t what they had in mind. There are so many ways to create the most magical day and be able to uniquely showcase you and your spouses love.
Decorations
Your decorations are an easy way to showcase you and your partners’ personalities and interests. You can do it in a subtle and classy way! One of our couples earlier this year used lab beakers as vases and table numbers from the actual scientific table! It was so cool and so cute because they both love science and are going to school to become neurologists.
Events
Once of the funnest ways to make memories at your wedding is to incorporate your friends and family in events throughout the night! Whether it’s a game, or crazy grand entrance, involving the people you love most in untraditional ways can make the day fun for everyone! We once had a bride who’s best friend was an auctioneer for work. They decided to have him auction off the garter and in return made over $1,000 from it!
Ceremony Traditions
The ceremony can be whatever you want it to be as long as you’re married by the end of it. We’ve seen people light candles, pour sand, paint paintings, intertwine ropes and even had someone bring their dog as the ring bearer! If you want to sing each other your vows or get married on the side of a cliff we’re here for it and ENCOURAGE IT! Seriously, make it fun.. or emotional.. or WHATEVER YOU WANT IT TO BE!
Dances
The dances are one of our favorite parts of a wedding day. It gives the couple and their families a chance to be together and show each other love and gratitude on a day that changes the life of everyone in the family. CHOOSE A SONG THAT’S SPECIAL TO YOU! If you and your dad used to listen to 70s disco music together, you can totally use that as the song you dance to! If you’re scared that it’s gonna be embarrassing, who the heck cares! This is a moment about you and your dad! One of the BEST mother and son dances we saw was earlier this summer in Texas. They started off slow dancing and surprised EVERYONE with a choreographed dance to a mashup of several of their favorite songs! We all died laughing and by the end, we were all crying because it was so cute!
Food
It’s no shocker that food brings people together. You don’t have to have a 5 course meal at your wedding! If you two love tacos, have a taco bar! If you ate ice cream sandwiches every day after work together, serve ice cream sandwiches! Maybe your grandma makes the best blackberry pie (too bad that’s a lie though because I know for a FACT that mine does!) and you want that instead of cake… have the dang pie instead of cake! Food is a way to show people love. What better way to express that than sharing your favorites!
The bottom line – DO WHAT YOU WANT! Screw tradition! Your wedding day is all about what makes you guys happy! This is the only time in your life that you can throw a party where anything goes! Be kind when others offer their input, but just remember that this day is all about YOU! You don’t have to stand in a line. You don’t even have to serve cake! If you don’t want to do something, don’t do it. If you want to do something, DO IT! It’s simple. Have a blast and do whatever will make you guys happy!
