What’s the most common phrase in the history of ever?
We all know that saying because its so applicable for so many things! Can you guess what we’re talking about today?!
LOCATION!
When you dream about your engagement session you don’t think that there’s too much to it other than just showing up and taking some pictures together right? WRONG! These pictures will be printed, delivered to your friends and family, probably hung up in your house and you’ll look back at them more than you think you will! (This is coming from someone who printed all my engagement pictures and used them as decorations at my reception. AND still has them in frames hanging up in my house… 3 years later!)
While planning your engagement session your location is super important. The location should be able to speak as a testament of you and your partner. It should be able to be symbolic!
When Austin and I got engaged we did our engagement pictures in the mountains because that’s one of our favorite places to be together. We are both pretty earthy people so it just made sense to take pictures in one of our favorite places! Every time I look at those pictures I smile because they really spoke to who we were!
A lot of people love the big wide beautiful landscape shots I take and want to know where they can go to get pictures like that. Living in Idaho, we are surrounded by beautiful places, but some places take more time to get to than others! If you know before hand that you want grandiose pictures that show you and your lover in a large landscape, plan on making time to drive out to that epic location.
There is a reason why you never see a billion other people in the pictures I take other than the couple. That’s because I strategically plan locations where I know not a ton of people will be! We get to those locations by usually taking some dirt road and driving for a hot sec. We might even throw in a hike if you want pictures that no one else will ever have! It may seem inconvenient at the time but the result is sooo worth it!
Think about it, there is nothing more awkward than PDA right? Luckily, when you’re shooting with me its literally just me.. and sometimes Austin haha. If I took you slap dab in the middle of the city and told you guys to kiss a bunch and run around like idiots you’d probably feel a little weird. I choose these epic location not only for the views but for the seclusion and energy they bring!
It’s so important to LOVE where you take your pictures!
Austin and I pay to get our pictures done at least once a year because I’m a big believer that its important to document every stage of life that you’re in. So if you want to go to New Zealand to get your pictures done, LETS GO! (Hahah you think I’m kidding, but Austin and I literally did that a few months ago.. I’m NOT kidding when I say LETS GO!)
Take that into consideration when planning your engagement session. Make your memories a priority! Don’t treat your engagement session like another to do. Treat it like they are the pictures that your kids are gonna look back on and smile at because of how young and giddy and in love their parents were! Also (shameless plug) I know of some of the prettiest places. Let’s plan a session of your dreams with the most insane views!
